About This Event:

It all starts with great design.  Data-backed conceptual floor plans, manufacturer collaborations with Architect/MEPs, and bending process design software for automated build-out constraints…there are a lot of ways in which this industry is pulling together equipment selection and process design engineering know-how in order to size properly and begin production faster.  In this presentation, two industry leaders, Dr. Rebecca Knight and Mike Anderson, from Hawthorne’s Professional Technical Service Department, will present their findings with open questions and interaction from the audience.

Rebecca will focus on the evolution of design services for integrating cultivation equipment, and how data and technology are being harnessed for new product development and cultivation design optimization.  Mike Anderson will touch on strategies for construction build outs that result in a consistent brand across multiple new and existing facilities, and the ways in which industry partnerships are forming between manufacturers and Architect/MEPs.  Impact questions include: how much can be saved/profited by completing build out 6 months faster?  How does utilization space, room size ratios, and multi-tiers impact the ideal conceptual floor plan?  How well do my Architects/MEPs know and specify cultivation design, including irrigation zones and calculations as well as HVAC loads that are dependent on cultivation styles?  Join Rebecca and Mike on June 15th for an engaging discussion on these topics and more.

Meet the Speakers:

Mike Anderson, MBA, LC, is the Director of Hardware Field Support in Technical Services, a department dedicated to providing customers free advice and site visits from leading experts in everything from nutrients, lighting, control systems, air flow, irrigation, and HVAC.  Mike spearheaded the integration of Hawthorne’s horticulture lighting and HVAC rebate program and currently oversees hardware field support for reverse osmosis, HVAC, lighting, and controls.  He has many years experience in business development for specialty products in the electrical and electronic manufacturing industry.

Rebecca Knight, PhD, is the Director of the Cultivation Design Team in Technical Services. Rebecca’s team develops close working relationships with industry growers and builders, and applies custom cultivation designs that integrate and optimize each room and facility with ideally sized benching, lighting, irrigation, fertigation, airflow and more.  Each project is unique and all systems are interconnected.  Utilizing partnerships with MEPs, in-house optimization tools, as well as photometric and 3D modeling, her team of engineers provide the specifications and recommended equipment needed for each project, across all sizes and categories of cultivation design. Her background includes extensive plant science research and industrial chemical and process engineering.
