As a resident of Florida, a state where medical marijuana is legal, the whole program is a rip-off! My wife has many medical conditions that are very painful. In Florida a limited number of doctors can legally prescribe cannabis. The doctors who want to be approved by the state must undergo extensive training and pay exhorbitant fees to be able to examine patients and prescribe. After they are “approved” by the state, the fees the doctors have to pay are never-ending, amounting to thousands of dollars. Consumers are in the same position. They must pay $150 USD per visit to the doctor, be certified as needing the medical card, and return to the doctor six months later and pay another $150. Medical marijuana dispensaries also have to pay state fees of many thousands of dollars to qualify as a state-approved facility. When a consumer goes to a dispensary they have to pay high fees for cannabis products. My wife and me are retired and on Social Security, but the fees required to obtain a card and buy the product are a lot higher than our income. For one person for the doctor exam, the medical card and the dispensary add up to more than $7,000 USD per year! Reply
