Nonprofit Street Art Festival aims to harness the power of murals as a tool for change within the Boulder Community
Boulder, Colo. (Sept. 2, 2020)—Wana Brands, America’s No. 1 infused-edibles company, and Terrapin Care Station, a consumer-focused cultivator, processor and provider of high-quality cannabis products, have teamed up as title supporters of the second annual Street WiseBoulder mural event. Held in their shared hometown of Boulder, the ARTivism mural festival was created by Street Wise Arts and is designed to amplify artists’ voices and use art’s power as a means to connect, spark change and build empathy within the community. The festival will run from Monday, Sept. 7, through Sunday, Sept. 13.
“Supporting our local community as we grapple with one of the most challenging times in history is a priority for Wana Brands. So when we had the opportunity to team up with our dispensary partner Terrapin Care Station to support one of the most exciting mural fests in Boulder, we were all in,” said Nancy Whiteman, CEO, Wana Brands. “We know the power of art has always helped connect members of communities, and that couldn’t be more important today.”

These new murals will be a voice for the underrepresented and will shed light on a variety of social justice issues that will serve as a catalyst for community growth and resilience.”
The nonprofit street art festival will feature 39 mural artists displaying their work on 23 walls seen from the streets of Boulder, Colo., where Wana Brands and Terrapin Care Station are both headquartered.
Wana Brands and Terrapin are supporting specific mural activations including:
- Old Liquor Mart (1750 N. 15th St.) will be home to a 1,500 sq. ft. activation featuring a variety of topics from women’s empowerment to housing for all, produced by homegrown talent and internationally recognized artists including Patrick Kane McGregor, Hoxxoh, Chris Haven, Jessica Moon, WORKSHOP8, Pher0, Uc Sepia, Koko Bayer.
- Linden Wall (Broadway and Linden) will feature a 1,225 sq. ft. mural by Artist Dan Toro that will explore comfort and self-focus. He plans to paint the American dream as a danger when we make it about ourselves and not about others. His mural will ask how much is enough when our neighbor is struggling?
The festival also is sponsored also by Flatirons Political Art, a BIPOC owned and led business that has been making art for good causes in Boulder’s NoBo Arts District since 2015. This is the latest in a series of local events that Wana Brands is supporting. Wana Brands recently sponsored the Wana Art House project in Denver, where a trio of vacant properties were turned into vibrant interactive art displays, employing two dozen artists hit hard by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout. Wana’s CSR program focuses on food security, support for those experiencing homelessness, and assistance for those enduring domestic violence.
Terrapin similarly has a long history over its 10 years of operations in supporting local communities. The company has contributed more than $600,000 to a variety of causes and nonprofits. Work has focused on diversity and equity, addressing systemic racism, supporting the LGBTQ+ community, ending homelessness, advancing criminal justice reform and reentry programs, and, of course, supporting local arts and entertainment programs, to name a few.
