Boulder, Colo. (Sept. 17, 2020)—As cannabis companies seek out ways to promote social equality and justice, a new resource CannabisForJustice.com has launched to provide a compendium of trusted resources designed for companies in the cannabis industry seeking to do more.
The website provides an expansive collection of trustworthy and expert resources that address a range of racial issues, touching on everything from education and training to recruiting, hiring and retention. The site also offers information about ways in which companies can join with other organizations and causes that support Black Lives Matter and other social justice issues. CannabisForJustice.com is an agnostic site that was spearheaded by Wana Brands after the company’s own efforts to seek social equity in the wake of George Floyd’s death in May.
“We are once again confronting systemic racism with dozens of cases of police brutality coming to a head with the murder of George Floyd in May. This injustice is happening alongside our efforts to advance a legal regulated cannabis industry even while cannabis prohibition in the U.S. has long been used to criminalize Black Americans, who are four times more likely than white people to be arrested on cannabis offenses,” said Wana CEO Nancy Whiteman.
“At Wana, we knew we had to do better–from hiring practices to training for employees on systemic racism and social justice in the cannabis industry. But we didn’t know where to start. After months of hard work and a lot of research, we wanted to share what we had discovered and start a dialogue. Three main components of the website guide participants through understanding systemic racism, committing to social equity in the workplace and tools for inclusion, and how people and companies can take real action to create change for more inclusive workplaces. The site allows participants to contribute additional resources and information, as well as request website topics to be explored in the future.
