Florida House Rescinds Medical Marijuana Smoking Ban

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ requested that lawmakers repeal the state’s ban on smokable medical marijuana. The Florida House obliged on Wednesday. The Gov vowed to fight the ban through he courts, if necessary; however, Bill SB 182 passed by a landslide 101-11 vote. The bill also passed unanimously in the Senate last week by a vote of 38-0.

The “smoking ban” i.e., not allowing medical marijuana patients to smoke flower, will be rescinded.  Under the terms of SB 182, doctors may order a six-month supply of medical marijuana for patients, which is triple the current limit. Fewer trips to the doctor puts less stress and hardship on patients. However, many are still critical of the out of pocket costs of medical marijuana, fearing that a lack of insurance coverage will continue to drive patients to the illicit marijuana market for their medicine.

Additionally, SB 182 stipulates that only terminally ill minors can smoke and will need a consensus of a prescribing physician and a pediatrician. Blunts and tobacco paper will not be allowed. [Read more at Forbes]
