 There’s been so much discussion lately about cannabis seed-to-sale tracking. This catchphrase is used to describe the process of tracking plants and their by-products from initial planting through to harvest and ultimately sale. It’s become a requirement in regulated cannabis markets, similar to traditional food or controlled substance markets.

Seed-to-sale: a compliance philosophy

There are plenty of ways to get to the same end result, but thus far seed-to-sale providers have collectively designed the most obscure ways to get to that end result, and it’s causing problems for both regulators and the cannabis industry. The task seems so simple, yet we have a market full of suppliers that consistently disappoint. It took us a while to understand why, but we’ve finally figured it out.

The reason is philosophical. We realized that, to date, seed-to-sale providers have embarked on a mission to fulfill regulatory requirements, and have taken a software design approach that yields a complex user experience that doesn’t actually assist growers in managing their crop.
