It doesn’t end with 100 percent federal illegality and rigorous Drug Enforcement Agency and Department of Treasury oversight.
Selling medical or adult use marijuana to consumers requires complying with federal, state and local packaging and labeling regulations and regulators.
Leading trade publication Marijuana Business Daily reports that “packaging labeling, and product safety” is non-compliance’s fastest-growing area with absence of required labeling’s “contents, size and conspicuousness” comprising 13 percent of legalized marijuana’s regulatory infractions.
While the state Department of Health is currently promulgating Pennsylvania’s legalized marijuana regulations, a review of other jurisdictions and the overall industry reveals both existing regulatory parameters and trend of growers and product manufacturers transferring packaging and labeling liability to dispensaries.
