urban-gro Hires Cannabis Industry Veteran Enhances Presence on the U.S. East Coast

NEW YORK (May 2, 2016) – urban-gro, the product solutions expert for the commercial Cannabis cultivator, is augmenting its expertise on the East Coast with the addition of former MedCann Advisors CEO Mark Doherty as Director of Sales. In this role, Doherty will work to meet urban-gro’s revenue growth objectives with commercial Cannabis cultivation facilities east of the Mississippi River. Doherty is based out of Utica, New York.

“As legalization marches down the East Coast, Cannabis producers need urban-gro’s core expertise in lighting solutions, integrated pest management, fertigation and water treatment,” Doherty said. “My experience with large scale horticulture provides me with the knowledge to help commercial Cannabis cultivators determine product solutions for both start-up and established cultivators.”

Prior to establishing MedCann Advisors, Doherty created the Northeast’s first controlled environment agricultural facility using the aquaponic farming method. As a wholesale producer of aquaponic lettuce for the restaurant industry, Aqua Vita Farms garnered national and international attention, such as “USA Today,” “BBC World News,” and “City and State Magazine,” for its contribution to controlled environment agriculture and sustainable farming. As an advisor and consultant, Doherty has been instrumental in building a foundation of success for dozens of entrepreneurs and startup companies. Mark has over a decade of experience in controlled environment agriculture, hydroponics, aquaponics, food security and distribution.

Currently, 14 Eastern region states and Washington, D.C. have enacted laws to legalize medical n Amarijuana, with the issue of legalization on Florida’s 2016 ballot. Massachusetts has been an emerging front runner for medical marijuana sales, with patients purchasing 9,576 ounces of marijuana in 65,270 individual transactions between the end of June 2015, when the first dispensary opened in Salem, and the end of November 2015, according to the state.
