2nd Dispensary Opens in San Diego While City Shuts Down Illegal Pot Shops

The city of San Diego’s first centrally located legal marijuana dispensary opened Saturday in the Midway District just east of Point Loma.

It’s the second permitted dispensary for medical marijuana to open in the city. The first opened in March near the international border in Otay Mesa.

The new dispensary at 3452 Hancock St. brings to three the number of legal businesses selling medical marijuana in the county. The county government allowed a dispensary to open last summer on unincorporated land outside El Cajon, but no cities other than San Diego allow legal dispensaries.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to try to close down a few dozen illegal pot shops still operating across the county, including about 15 within the city of San Diego. [Read more at the San Diego Union-Tribune]
