A group pushing a for-profit marijuana legalization ballot issue is a step closer today following Attorney General Mike DeWine’s approval of the petition summary of the proposed constitutional amendment.
DeWine said the wording submitted contains a “fair and truthful” summary of the proposed amendment. He certified the petition “without passing upon the advisability of the approval or rejection of the measure.”
ResponsibleOhio, the group promoting the issue, must now to go to the Ohio Ballot Board, overseen by Secretary of State Jon Husted, to gain approval of the wording for the Nov. 3 election. A board will meet in about 10 days.
DeWine rejected the petition summary the first time it was submitted on Feb. 13 because of two defects, but he gave the green light to the revised measure submitted March 3. DeWine, who has publicly stated his opposition to the ResponsibleOhio proposal, stressed his approval was for form only, not the content of the amendment. [Read more at the Columbus Dispatch]
