The clock is ticking for supporters of a proposed constitutional marijuana-legalization issue to collect 305,591 valid signatures of registered Ohio voters by July 1.
ResponsibleOhio, the group supporting legalizing personal and medical use of marijuana, got the go-ahead yesterday from the five-member Ohio Ballot Board, which ruled that the proposal is a single ballot issue. The board chaired by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has limited authority and was not empowered to kill the proposal or make changes in the wording.
Husted, a Republican who has been in his current office since 2011, said after the meeting that he grudgingly voted for the measure, which he called “the most objectionable constitutional amendment I’ve dealt with as secretary of state.”
Husted, Gov. John Kasich and all other statewide non-judicial officeholders oppose ResponsibleOhio’s plan. [Read more at the Columbus Dispatch]
