Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and near some of the best skiing in the USA, Salida, Colorado, population 5,409, is home of the Berkenkotter brothers, entrepreneurs that have made a great living starting, growing and selling businesses since they were old enough to walk! The brothers owned car dealerships, sold trucks, campers, trailers and toppers, and the parent company Morningstar Farms, employed over 200 people and generated $35 million in revenue at its high water mark.

Most of the businesses had complicated inventory management needs and Steve Berkenkotter, an accountant by training, had devised the Morningstar Software System to handle that plus payroll, benefits, HR and any other accounting functions and data requirements to run an ongoing concern across multiple locations and for any industry that had these type of requirements. They began adding clients, liquor stores, car dealerships and others for their software offering.

By 2007-2008, the recession was in full swing and demand for luxury items was decreasing and Steve and his brothers decided to start unloading their dealerships and to move full-time into the software business.

He launched Adilas (Salida spelled backwards) in June of 2008 with his brother David and Brandon Moore (Developer) and built a network of Adilas trainer/consultant/resellers to sell their product to any industry that could use the product and it’s ability to do real time cost of goods sold tracking. One logical area the represented a great opportunity for growth, the nascent medical marijuana industry, become a key target SIC industry for their offerings. Their offering for the industry can be customized to meet all regulatory compliance requirements by state and all accounting functions can be merged to determine chain of custody for business owners dealing with the strict 280E requirements instituted by the IRS for cannabis PPR owners.

Adilas now serves nearly 400 Producer/Processor/Retail/Lab testing service clients in the US in AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, MA, ME, MN, NM, and WA. They have over 67 consultants and 12 developers working full time as 1099 contractors and selling the cloud-based service and training business owners and their staffs in not only the cannabis industry but also in industries like, Bowling Pro shops, Salons, Auto Dealers, or any other SIC that can use their CUBE Relational databases to maximize their assets and accounting processes. The Adilas name also stands for “All Data is Live and Searchable” so it can be customized to the spec requirements of just about any environment at a fraction of the cost of more cumbersome software packages.

The Adilas footprint has grown outside of Colorado where clients like Denver Relief and FGS (patient’s Choice/Live Green) use their software. CBE Press continues to hear stories from customers that have switched software service providers to Adilas from some of the better known suppliers in the space and they are very happy with the quality of the service and pricing of the software in meeting their compliance and accounting needs.

A modern word for what Adilas does is an online version of “SaaS” or Software as a Service. Clients own their own data and have 24/7 access to the site, through a valid login and password. Adilas maintains the code base and the application files. They also provide all of the future upgrades and features for FREE.

Adilas charges a monthly fee based on client needs, the size of the business, storage requirements, and expected usage. If you have multiple locations or multiple businesses, they work with the client to help them leverage their software expenditure. Their simple goal is to provide clients with tons of great features at a great price. The Adilas solution set can be customized to meet specific client needs.

As new state traceability systems come online, the demand for seed to sale software will continue to grow and Adilas plans on being in the game to provide an effective and affordable solution to producers, processors and retailers because they believe that all date should be live and searchable.
