Harris’ anti-pot measure advances

The House voted Wednesday to pass legislation that includes a proposal by Rep. Andy Harris, R-1st-Md., to block marijuana decriminalization in Washington.

House Democrats who opposed the Maryland Republican’s measure made no attempt to block it with an amendment Wednesday, knowing they would fail in the Republican-led House. However, the measure — which would ban the District of Columbia from using local funds to carry out a marijuana policy that takes effect today — is unlikely to advance in the Democrat-controlled Senate.
