DENVER – Colorado’s Attorney General on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out a lawsuit brought by her counterparts in Oklahoma and Nebraska over the state’s recreational marijuana marketplace.

Oklahoma and Nebraska argue that the flow of marijuana out of Colorado is hurting their states, filling their jails and clogging their court systems with offenders illegally exporting pot across state borders. In a strongly worded response, Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman said Oklahoma and Nebraska shouldn’t blame Colorado for trying to regulate a substance whose use is “staggeringly widespread.”

Coffman said the federal government made marijuana illegal but has chosen to generally ignore Colorado’s system despite having the power to do so under the Controlled Substances Act.  [Read more at USA Today]
